The Garden Club of Virginia approached Water Street Studio with a unique street improvement project for the City of Richmond. A streetscape made possible through public and private monies, the vision was to improve a section of 14th Street in the downtown as a demonstration garden for future public works.

The Water Street landscape architects and civil engineers carefully coordinated efforts to bring their expertise to this laudable goal. Using the natural sloping topography of the street, the office devised a system of catch basins and spillways that move storm-water off of the surrounding hardscape and through plants that filter sediments and harmful deposits. The resulting infrastructure provides an array of plantings, street trees, outdoor lighting and an interactive garden for the public to enjoy.
