BUNDORAN FARM North Garden, VA
Bundoran Farm is an award-winning 2,300 acre conservation community located along the upper branches of the Hardware River, approximately 15 miles South of Charlottesville, Virginia. Our work on the property dates to 2005 when, working alongside Celebration Associates, Qroe Development and at McKee Carson, our landscape architects and planners helped conceive and shape this unique precedent for rural development.
An exhaustive master planning process allowed sensitive ecological areas and productive agricultural lands to be mapped for protection. Overlays of existing road inventories and view shed analyses were also developed. In the end, 100 home sites were field-selected based on the master plan studies, visual impact and compatibility with the scenic, rural context.
With over 90% of the original farm preserved, Bundoran has served as a beacon in the world of conservation development and continues to draw praise. Audubon International partnered with the developer to create the Baldwin Center, a nonprofit entity whose mission is to educate the public on sustainable growth and agricultural preservation. In 2015 Southern Living Magazine named Bundoran Farm the site of its annual Southern Living Idea Home.
Waterstreet Studio's involvement at Bundoran continues as we work with the Owner/Operator, Natural Retreats, and prospective residents to plan and design various home sites, entry drives, gardens and amenities in a manner that blends harmoniously into this cherished Albemarle County landscape.
